Bingo halls will have waiter service
Bingo venues belonging to the Rank Group will soon offer a table-waiting service, according to the Daily Mirror.
The gambling giant - which operates more than 100 clubs around the UK in total - is spending millions of pounds on renovating a number of its Mecca Bingo halls and serving food, champagne and other drinks to seated customers is set to be part of the new look.
Bingo clubs in Aberdeen and Birmingham are to be refurbished at a cost of £3 million, while £5 million is also being spent doing up a site in Beeston, Nottinghamshire.
The newspaper indicated that the makeovers are an attempt by Rank to draw in younger customers and the Bingo Association - which represents proprietors of the game in the UK - was quoted as being positive about the changes.
"This shows how to bring in new members," the organisation said.
Attracting punters with food and drink is a tactic used regularly elsewhere in the leisure and gaming sector.
Last year, casino chain Genting Stanley recruited celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli to help design its restaurant menus.
