Politician embraces bingo fun

A leading UK politician recently participated in bingo fun at a hall in South Shields.

Foreign secretary David Miliband turned up at the Mecca Bingo venue recently in response to an invitation from the hall's chief executive.

The request was sent as part of the Save Our Bingo campaign, which developed in response to government plans to raise the tax on bingo revenue.

Mr Miliband reportedly got involved in the action at the hall and called out some of the numbers.

According to Bingo Port, the politician likened the calling to debating in the House of Commons.

The online portal suggested that Mr Miliband is keen to help the country's bingo industry.

He received a warm welcome from bingo players in the hall, it suggested.

The report added: "Expressing interest in bingo appears to be a hot vote-winning technique adopted by the local MPs. One may expect more of them to pay unexpected visits to local bingo halls."

Married with two children, Mr Miliband has been the MP for South Shields since June 2001 and he divides his time between there and London.
