Bingo players prepare for high altitude game

A number of bingo players are preparing to take part in the world's highest ever game.

Set to take place on Mount Everest, the event will see a total of 25 bingo fans don their climbing gear and ascend the mountain in order to raise £100,000 for charity.

They will reach the base camp before embarking on their competition.

Among those getting ready for the event is Mark Simm, manager of Gala Bingo in Blackburn.

The proceeds raised by him and his fellow climbers will go towards the hospice charity Sue Ryder Care, which needs £74 million each year to fund its work.

Providing care to people with cancer, brain injuries, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, Huntington's and Parkinson's disease, as well as people with dementia and those who have suffered strokes, the organisation has operations in 12 countries.

Commenting on his preparations, Mr Simm said: "It seems a bit daft, but if we're going to do this challenge properly we need to be prepared so, apart from the high altitude bingo practice, I've also been playing double-speed bingo games," the Blackburn Citizen reports.
