Online bingo may rise in popularity
Online bingo may experience a surge in popularity as a result of the government's stance on bingo tax, it has been suggested.
According to Hannah Jones, writing for Bingo Sites, despite the fact that a petition with more than 2,000 signatures of bingo fans was presented following the announcement of plans to raise the tax levy from 15 per cent to 22 per cent, there has been no u-turn by the government.
This, Ms Jones suggests, "can only spell good news for online bingo sites" as an increasing number of people will be heading to the internet to play the numbers game.
The government has stated that the tax elevation should simplify the process by scrapping the VAT on participation fees but many smaller real time bingo halls could suffer as a result, as they may not have the option of creating an online presence.
"It is still sad to see a game that has been more like a tradition for many years dwindle away," Ms Jones remarked.
The attractiveness of online bingo was recently emphasised in a report by Sunlight Bingo, which suggested that factors such as the variety of websites on offer and easy communication with players from other countries contribute to its success.
