MP backs the game of bingo

MP Joan Humble has frequented a local bingo hall in the seaside town of Blackpool, in a show of support for the bingo industry as the tax debate rages on.

According to bingo blog Unlucky For Some, Ms Humble met with the manager of the club Mike Travis to consider a range of issues that are facing the game of bingo, including the smoking ban and the hike in rates.

"I wanted to ensure bingo halls were being treated fairly," she was quoted as saying, going on to note that she has been doing extensive lobbying at Westminster regarding bingo taxation.

She also remarked upon how saddened she was by closures of halls in Fleetwood and Cleveleys, adding that all that can be must be done in order to prevent the remaining bingo arenas from shutting their doors.

However, online bingo may see a surge in popularity as a result of the increase in the tax levy from 15 per cent to 22 per cent.

Despite a petition with more than 2,000 signatures on it, the government is showing no signs of halting its plans, which means that more bingo fans will be heading to the web to sate their betting appetite.
