Online bingo provides lifeline for football widows

Football widows meet through online bingo sites

A number of women who were left lonely when their respective partners disappeared to watch football have met as a result of playing online bingo and formed a club.

The Football Widows Club was established after the women conversed in the chatrooms of bingo websites, Which Bingo UK reports.

Among the founders of the organisation is Kath Cross, who says that her partner is "soccer-nuts".

She said: "Let the men get on with their football and leave the rest of us to chat away about the more important things in life - on our website the "F" word is banned!"

The Football Widows Club provides support and advice to women who feel they have been neglected by their husbands or boyfriends as a result of football.

A counselling service also offers advice to couples to help tackle problems that may crop up during the soccer season.

Earlier this year, PricewaterhouseCoopers noted that online bingo players tend to form bonds and friendships they would not otherwise have done.
