Bingo players to get to Base Camp

Bingo players are getting to climb Everest

A fundraising initiative being organised by a group of bingo players has been described by the Telegraph as an "extraordinary challenge".

Next month, a total of 24 people are to make their way up to the Base Camp on Mount Everest, which separates Nepal and Tibet.

Once at the location, they will embark on a game of bingo.

The event is intended as a means of generating money for hospice charity Sue Ryder Care, which needs £74 million each year to fund its work.

Commenting on the project, the Telegraph said: "The intrepid trekkers will face dehydration, altitude sickness and deep vein thrombosis as they take part in a bingo pilgrimage to Everest's Base Camp."

It pointed out that the camp where the bingo game is to take place is 17,500 feet above sea level.

The team are Gala Coral employees and they hope to raise a grand total of £100,000 for Sue Ryder Care.

They have been taking part in a variety of training activities, such as hill-walking and distance running. In addition, they have been engaging in bingo games on top of landmarks in their home towns.
