Bingo fans to donate shoes

Bingo halls involved in fundraising bid

A number of bingo halls across the country are set to take part in a charity campaign.

The Mecca group is participating in a scheme dubbed the Mecca Wheel Difference initiative, which will see people dropping off their old footwear.

With the proceeds raised from the shoes, young people's mobility equipment will be purchased.

One of the venues participating in the campaign is in Doncaster, where people will be able to coincide depositing unwanted footwear with a game of bingo.

Manager of Mecca in East Laith Gate Chris Hart said: "This latest fundraising scheme is part of the very successful Mecca Wheel Difference campaign - now in its second year here at Mecca Doncaster," local paper the Star reports.

He added that bingo fans will be able to drop their old shoes off at a collection point set up in the club, although he reminded people it may be wise to take a spare pair along to get home in.

The individual who offers the most "outlandish" shoes will win a VIP night out for four people at their local bingo club, Mr Hart pointed out.

Recently, Gala Bingo in Lordshill participated in a fundraising event which saw prize draws and tombolas taking place. The cash generated went to the Sue Ryder Care charity.
