Bingo players raise cash for charity

As well as experiencing the thrills and spills of engaging in the game, players at a bingo hall in Southampton have been raising money for charity.

Gala Bingo in Lordshill has been taking part in a national campaign to generate cash for the Sue Ryder Care charity.

Midway through last month, the hall had raised £756 by holding a series of regular prize draws and tombolas.

According to committee fundraiser Sue Cooper, the response from local businesses and bingo players was overwhelming.

"We have been getting a lot of support with all our regular players and local businesses who have been providing prizes," This Is Hampshire.net quoted her as saying.

One of the first prizes on offer to bingo players was a two-person holiday to Bruges, which Ms Cooper described as "fantastic".

Also engaging in bingo fun for charity is Mark Simm, manager of Gala Bingo in Blackburn, who is preparing to take part in what has been described as the world's highest ever game on Mount Everest.

The money raised for this will also go towards Sue Ryder Care.
