Military veterans helped by bingo
Veterans of the US Armed Forces at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Centre may be pleased to hear that in-house entertainment at the hospital is now to include games of bingo.
The move to introduce rounds of the numbers game for those getting well-earned rest comes as part of the decision by the Services to Armed Forces Grant to direct $50,000 to the trust to fund four separate programmes, the Muskogee Phoenix reports.
Executive director Hope Margarit has said that the game will be played electronically, with the patients given cards and the numbers broadcast into each room.
"If they get a bingo, they just call in to say 'bingo'," she remarked.
The money will also be put towards hosting a Military Family Network Programme, with a monthly catered dinner being held.
Another charity profiting from a game of bingo or two is the Susan G Komen Foundation, a breast cancer trust.
Students from the University of New Mexico will be putting on a bingo drive on November 19th to raise money for the cause, with many prizes up for grabs including Starbucks gift cards and iPod nanos.
