Bingo game helps raise cash for charity

A bingo game was one of the ways a group of fundraisers recently managed to generate cash for a good cause.

According to a Hartlepool Today report, members of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes staged a charity night as part of a drive to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance service, which operates three helicopters based at Teesside, Cumbria and Northumberland.

By Christmas, the organisation hopes to have raised £20,000 for the service.

It decided to help the ambulance charity after children injured in the English Martyrs school bus crash in July 2007 received air ambulance assistance.

As well as bingo, the fundraising evening saw people take part in clairvoyance activities and a raffle.

Organiser Allan Barclay remarked: "It was a fantastic night and we managed to sell 146 tickets, which brought in around £1,400 straight away.

Recently, news source Bingo Port suggested that fans of the game often have a tendency to display their charitable side.

It pointed out that over recent weeks the Gala Group has raised the "colossal" sum of around £212,000 for breast cancer organisations.
