Bingo players raise cash for good causes

An adventurous group of bingo fans has set a world record for the numbers game, while raising a lot of money for a charity.

The team of 20 intrepid bingo players hiked 17,500 feet to reach Mount Everest's base camp to play a few rounds amid the clouds, Get Surrey reports.

In doing so, they managed to raise more than £100,000 for cancer trust Sue Ryder Care and secured the world record for the highest level the game has ever been played at.

Patrick King from Sunbury was one of the participants in the attempt and he trained for a year in order to be fit enough to take part.

"It's great to finally be able to say that I've trekked to the top of the world and set a new record for Britain's favourite game," he said.

This is not the first time funds have been generated for charities by bingo players. Holidaymakers in Skegness recently pulled in a total of £7,000 through the pastime, with half the amount going to Skegness Lifeboat, which belongs to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
