Bingo caller to make NFL return
Part-time bingo caller Sherman Lewis has been drafted in by American football team Washington Redskins to help perform alternative calling duties for their offensive unit.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2004 after stints as offensive coordinator for Green Bay Packers - with whom he won the Super Bowl in 1996 - Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions, the coach has been acting as a compere during bingo games at a local senior centre in Michigan, the Associated Press reports.
But after the Redskins stripped head coach Jim Zorn of his offensive play calling role following defeat again Kansas City Chiefs over the weekend, Lewis has been brought in to provide his expertise.
Several American football stars have been known to enjoy bingo over the years, including former New England Patriots wide receiver and stalwart Troy Brown, who earned three Super Bowl rings during his 15 seasons with the side.
His Troy Brown Celebrity Bingo event, designed to raise money for charities such as One More, has proven popular in the past and attracted a number of famous faces from a range of sports and professions.
