Bingo caller named volunteer of the month

A bingo caller from the US has received praise for the efforts she makes as a volunteer at the Fernley Senior Centre (FSC).

Kathy Setterberg gives up her free time to perform the role of bingo caller at the centre, which recently named her volunteer of the month, the Reno Gazette Journal reports.

As well as helping bingo enthusiasts enjoy the game, she also serves as a Boogiesize class instructor and monitors the front desk several times a week.

She also makes time to decorate the building for each of the holidays.

In total, the community-spirited mother of four, who moved to Fernley 13 years ago with her husband, donates 25 hours a week to helping out.

FSC manager Debbie Stevens described her as an "incredible person", adding that she does a lot for the centre.

Indeed, it would not be able to function without her, she added.

It seems it is not only residents at the FSC that enjoy their bingo games, with the Intelligencer recently reporting that a 100-year-old woman can frequently be found at her local bingo hall.

Loretta-Mae Bernhardt indulges in the activity between four and five times a week near her home in Marysville, it revealed.
