We'll be spending our online bingo winnings on bum bags and cycling shorts next summer
Brace yourselves ladies. Nineties fashion is back and you'll soon be spending your bingo winnings on cycling shorts and sportswear despite your better judgement.
Most of us look back to the decade with a twinge of regret when we think of shell suits, bright green and orange clothes and Adidas poppers, but according to Pamela Harris, deputy fashion editor at She magazine, 90s trends have made their way on to catwalks.
The spring/summer 2010 collections saw bum bags sported by Marc Jacobs models and cycling shorts donned by the stars of Louis Vuitton, Prada, Jasmine de Milo and Emporio Armani's shows.
"Nineties fashion trends are on the way back. Cycling shorts, bum bags, sportswear, neons, kitten heels and grunge are all making a comeback," said Pamela.
But hold on a minute before you start digging in the back of the wardrobe for your Kappa jacket and tie-dye t-shirt, because there's an art to pulling off this 90s look, according to the fashion guru.
Her advice is not to wear lots of 90s-inspired items at once. "Cycling shorts look best when worn with short dresses, they're not meant to be worn on their own," she explained.
You may also need to start saving up that any online bingo cash you manage to win if you want to stay on trend.
"Check out Louis Vuitton's bum bag in embossed leather to show how bum bags have returned with a very cool makeover," Pamela said.
When it comes to sportswear, it's not simply a case of throwing on a tracksuit either.
"This time around the sporty and grunge trends have been updated to look sexy and sophisticated," Pamela explained.
"The grunge look is all about layering, so invest in long-sleeve jersey tops to wear under soft chiffon dresses," she added.
