This school has been catering to the need of special education students since it was established in 1976. 888 has initiated activities with the people at St. Martin's like gardening projects and miniature zoo. 888 also sends its best to the Adele School in Antigua, a government subsidized school for children with mild to severe handicaps and learning disabilities.
In addition, 888 has also contributed to Netanya-based non-profit charity “Derech Ha’Etgar”. This charity gives assistance to financially-disadvantaged teenagers by advancing their education and providing training to enhance their skills and fulfill their needs. Through the years, 888.com employees have worked with children on different community projects, including building a website to provide exposure for the charity in the long term.
The Shane Warne Foundation (TSWF)
In October 2008, Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne hosted the annual "Shane Warne and Joe Hachem Charity Poker Event". Local celebrities sat as bounties on tables made up of hundreds of poker enthusiasts with the aim to raise lots of money for The Shane Warne Foundation. Everyone dug deep into their pockets raising almost $200,000, with 888.com being one of the major sponsors donating AU$10,888, in addition to buying in numerous celebrities for the event.
The Shane Warne Foundation (TSWF) is committed to raising funds for the seriously ill and underprivileged children of Australia, now and in the future. Shane realized he could make a difference on his own, although it was only a small difference to what a team of people could do. Rather than work “hands on” with children, TSWF raises funds and distributes to established charities that do. Not only have they enriched countless children’s lives they have also saved many.
Since January 2008, when Shane was announced as the 888.com Australian team captain, 888.com has been actively supporting his charity with events and donations. 888.com will continue to support events that raise money for TSWF in 2009 and are committed to donating funds that will continue to assist children throughout Australia.
Charity Events
2007 - As part of its 10th anniversary celebration, 888 gave generous donation to
two charities last October 10th, 2008, namely Earth Action and World for World. Earth Action is the world's largest network of organizations, policymakers and journalists for peace, justice, and the environment. The World for World, established in 2002, focuses on improving nutrition and living standards of the poorest in the world.
2008 - This year the charity event took place in December just before the holiday season. 888.com led its entire global clientèle and personnel into its second charity drive! The charity event aimed to raise funds endorsing global humanitarian charity, World for World.
We are extremely excited that our affiliates were keen to join us in the charity event by donating a percentage of their December income for the cause. To mark the event, during the month of December 2008, 888 employees continued their yearlong volunteering with a special event on behalf of their local charity of choice.
